Juneau Crime Line / Crime Stoppers has donated $1,000 to the Juneau Police Department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
DARE, organized by JPD officers Blain Hatch and John Cryderman, is a 10-week program that teaches fifth-graders how to avoid drugs and alcohol.
The $1,000 donation comes from a whale-watching fundraiser hosted by Allen Marine Tours and Crime Line / Crime Stoppers. The event was dedicated to the memory of Kathy Hildre, a member of the Crime Line’s board who supported youth education programs. The donation accounts for approximately one-quarter of the money needed to run the DARE program for a year.
Kathy’s son, Jimmy Hildre, was on hand for the check presentation in December and reiterated his mother’s passion for Crime Line. He said Crime Line’s support for the DARE youth program was a fitting tribute to her.
