This year, an unprecedented number of bird species made it on to the Audubon Alaska WatchList’s Red List, a designation which signals the highest level of conservation concern.
The WatchList, a report that measures the vulnerability of Alaska’s birds, will be the subject of a Dec. 14 talk at the University of Alaska Southeast. Executive Director of Audubon Alaska Dr. Nils Warnock will inform attendees of the status of Alaska’s vulnerable bird populations.
The lecture takes place at 7 p.m. in room 116 of the UAS recreation center and is free to all who want to attend. Warnock will explore the factors contributing to declines in Alaska bird populations, look at success stories, quiz attendees on Alaska bird knowledge and explain what can be done to conserve vulnerable species.
The entire WatchList is available at http://ak.audubon.org/conservation/alaska-watchlist.
