With the end of January comes the closing of all Sitka black-tailed deer hunting in Southeast. Now, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is reminding hunters who obtained deer harvest tickets, even those who did not hunt or harvest deer, must return completed hunt reports to ADF&G. Hunters who have not yet submitted hunt reports should do so immediately by mail, in person at a Fish and Game office or online at http://hunt.alaska.gov.
The information hunters provide in hunt reports is critical to monitoring deer populations and estimating changes in area-specific harvest and hunting effort. It provides the data needed for recommending appropriate seasons and bag limits. The more detailed information, the better biologists can track deer trends and manage populations.
