Department of Fish and Game starts email list

Those in the Alaskan fishing community can now get up-to-the-minute updates straight to their phones.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish, announced this week that it’s beginning an email subscription service. It will send regional news releases, emergency orders and other fishing updates via email.

“We’re pleased to be able to provide fishing information directly to the angling public in a timely manner using this device,” Lisa Evans, Assistant Director of the Division of Sport Fish, said in a release. “This service is very easy to use, it’s fully customizable and it allows the user to manage their subscriptions based on their preferences.”

Those interested in the service can subscribe by going to the Department of Fish and Game website and locating the Sport Fish page under the Fishing tab at the top of the page. As Evans said, the subscription offers a great deal of customization, as subscribers can get news releases and fishing reports for entire regions or for specific communities.

The site goes beyond mere geographic updates as well, also asking subscribers numerous questions about age and specific interests. Whether one is interested in commercial fishing, licensing, hunting big game, hunting waterfowl or merely watching and photographing wildlife, the subscriber can build the list around his or her endeavors.

The convenience of the service allows for anglers to receive updates even while they explore the state’s 3,000 rivers and 6,640 miles of coastline.

“In addition, with a large number of the angling public carrying smart phones,” Evans said in the release, “people can now be out enjoying our sport fishing resources while getting the most up-to-date news.”
