The Douglas 4th of July Committee asked Douglas Island residents to fly the flag and decorate their properties in red, white and blue to show some patriotic spirit for Flag Day, June 14, and asked the decorations to remain up till after the July 4 celebrations are over. Ninety-two property owners flew the United States Flag and Alaska State Flag. The Douglas Fire Fighters judged the owner’s decorations Tuesday evening.
In the House category, first place went to 1204 4th St, second went to 1002 5th St., third to 1314 2nd St. while the honorable mention went to 204 5th St. Patriotic Spirit went to 206 E St. In the Apartment category, first place went to 803 4th St. #1 while second went to 620 St. Anns. First place for Business went to Seaview Chalet B&B and second went to Louie’s Douglas Inn. Douglas Methodist Church won the non-profit category.
