JUNEAU — The second film in the Climate Action Film Series, “Bidder 70,” will be at the Goldtown Nickelodeon at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6 and 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7.
The film is a documentary about Tim DeChristopher’s act of civil disobedience to fight climate change — bidding $1.7 million at a BLM Oil and Gas leasing auction to win 22,000 acres of pristine Utah wilderness he had no intention of paying for or drilling on — ended him in federal prison for two years.
DeChristopher’s action is part of a larger movement to stop fossil fuel infrastructure in the U.S. and around the world,” said Elaine Schroeder, one of the film series organizers. “The Standing Rock Sioux’s acts of protest and civil disobedience to stop the North Dakota Access Pipeline are part of this movement.”
Accompanying “Bidder 70” is a new short film, “Disobedience,” about the rise of global fossil fuel resistance on four continents by citizens who recognize the urgency of climate disruption.
