The act of taking advantage of seniors’ checkbooks is much more common than some might think, and Southeast Senior Services is hosting an educational event Wednesday to dive deeper into the issue.
The class, which is co-hosted by the Tlingit and Haida Regional Housing Authority, is entitled “Elder Financial Abuse Prevention,” and focuses both on outside scams that people run on seniors and the way that family members can take advantage of seniors.
Dawn Wesley, a program coordinator for Financial Cent$, is leading the conversation, which will take place from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library. The event is free and open to anybody.
