Feed the Mind campaign funds Universal Breakfast Program

The Juneau School District would like to thank Alaska Native Sisterhood (ANS) Camp 70 and Alaska Native Brotherhood (ANB) Camp 70 for coordinating the Feed the Mind campaign to support nutrition programs for Juneau’s children.

ANB Camp 70 President Kevin Allen recently presented a check to Superintendent Mark Miller and Food Service Program Supervisor Adrianne Schwartz. The check was a generous donation to the universal breakfast program of $7,625 raised through the 2017 Feed the Mind campaign. The campaign surpassed the original goal of raising $7,500 to support the universal breakfast programs at Floyd Dryden and Dzantik’i Heeni Middle Schools this year.

JSD would like to acknowledge the many contributors to this campaign: Goldbelt Corporation; Northrim Bank; Denali Federal Credit Union; Simpson Tillinghast & Sorensen; Alaska Electric Light & Power; Coeur Alaska, Glacier Pediatrics; Juneau Tlingit & Haida Community Council; Sealaska Corporation; Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska; ANB Glacier Valley Camp 70; ANS Glacier Valley Camp 70 and individual members of ANS Camp 70.

“ANS Camp 70 and ANB Camp 70 are committed to improving the lives and educational outcomes for children and recognize the role good nutrition plays in their success, said ANS Glacier Valley Camp President Freda Westmanon behalf of ANB Glacier Valley Camp in a letter to the school district. “We are pleased to work in cooperation with the Juneau Community Foundation and the Juneau Public Schools to ensure that all middle school students can begin their day free from worry about hunger and better able to focus on their learning.”
