Award-winning Juneau photographer Mark Kelley is the featured Fireside lecturer at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 pm and 8 pm.
In his Fireside Lecture, Kelley will describe the thinking process he uses when composing images that create a lasting memory in the eyes of beholders.
“As a kid in Buffalo, New York, I always wondered what it would be like to encounter a whale,” says Kelley. “I moved north in 1974 and four years later graduated from the University of Alaska with a journalism degree.” Some of Mark’s most notable photos feature whales.
After working as a photojournalist at the Juneau Empire for more than 13 years, Kelley pursued a full-time career in freelance photography and publishing in 1993.
Kelley is well known for his Juneau and Southeast Alaska calendars and has sold upwards of a quarter million books featuring Alaska. He is an acclaimed Alaskan photographer with twelve book credits to his name plus numerous book and photography awards.
The audience will have time for questions and answers.
