Food Bank manager thanks Juneau for food drive

The Southeast Alaska Food Bank would like to thank the Rotary clubs of Juneau for their outstanding efforts organizing last Saturday’s Rotary Food Drive day, which collected almost six tons of non-perishable food for us.

On Saturday, customers at Foodland IGA, Super Bear IGA, Fred Meyers and Safeway, assisted by First Student bus drivers, donated 11,275 pounds of groceries in one day. This surpassed the 8,220 pounds of food that came in during last year’s Rotary food drive.

The generosity of the citizens of Juneau was overwhelming in their support for those in need.

We’d like to thank all of the volunteers from across Juneau who donated their time on Saturday, as well as the small army of volunteers who came out on Sunday to unload all the donated food from the First Student school buses, including the group of Cub Scouts who assisted as well.

This food drive will make a huge difference in the lives of children, seniors and families in need. Together we can eradicate hunger in Juneau.

Thank you again Juneau!

Darren Adams,

Manager, Southeast Alaska Food Bank
