The sixth annual Frugal Fashion Show & Tea was held on Oct. 22 at the Juneau Moose Family Center. All of the proceeds from this event, which was sponsored by the Women of the Moose, Juneau Chapter #439, will be donated to the AWARE Shelter.
Much thanks to Janet Lassiter and Sarah Hyde, who co-chaired this year’s event and made much of the wonderful treats for the tea. In addition, Sarah also stepped up to be our Master of Ceremony. The judges were Nancy Hudson, Cornerstone Mortgage, Kimmie Buhler, Platinum Real Estate Group, and Emily Russo Miller, the managing editor of the Juneau Empire. Thank you, ladies, for doing a great job!
We sincerely appreciate all the people and businesses that helped us out with gift certificates and door prizes. Our main drawing was for a beautiful hand-carved silver bracelet by Doug Chilton, won by Ellie Hegar of Petersburg. Other door prizes were from Sally Burnham of Custom Cuts, Patrica Holk of Alaska Serenity Massage Therapy, Alaska Dames, Juneau Moose Lodge #700, Harbor Spice & Tea, Red Onion Tea (which also donated the tea for the event), Heritage Coffee, LuLaRoe by Michelle Carson, Younique by Tanya Silva, La Boheme (Ann), and Annie Kaills, Juneau Chapter #439, Sue Smith, Knock It Out Hair & Nails, plus a number of other anonymously donated items.
We had several categories, including a new one for kids younger than 12. Our “Overall Winner” and the winner of $100 cash was Cindy Hudson. The second place winner with gift certificates of $80 was Ali Dennis, who is and had been Cindy’s little sister in Juneau’s Big Sister Big Brother Program.
Winners in each group received a ribbon and there were also many door prizes given out during the event.
The beautiful tea cup sets were a donation from the estate of Pat and Stan Beadle.
Special thanks to all the ladies, too many to name individually, who stepped up to help in so many different ways. They just saw a need and filled the gap. To all who supported our event by purchasing tickets, modeling, providing refreshments, and donating wonderful gift certificates and or door prizes, we can’t thank you enough.
The event raised approximately $2,000. However, we also have two baby quilts, handmade by Jean Hunt, that we are raffling off at $5 per ticket, or three tickets for $10. This drawing is scheduled for Dec. 15 at the Juneau Moose Family Center. These funds will be added to the total given to the AWARE Shelter. If you were unable to attend but would still like to make a donation to the AWARE Shelter that will help enable their continued efforts to rid our community of domestic violence, just let us know.
