Blackerby Ridge is now closed to goat hunting, according to an emergency order by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.
The closure takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Thursday. It closes goat hunting in the area of Game Management Unit 1C between the south side of Blackerby Ridge and the north side of Salmon Creek Reservoir above the 1000-foot contour and east to Observation Peak.
The closure was put into effect because guideline harvest levels were met in the area. This year, Fish & Game allowed for as many as two male goats or one female goat to be taken from the area. As of Oct. 10, one male goat had been taken, but because of the vulnerability of goats in the area, ADFG decided to close it to hunting.
