This past summer Fairweather Equitation Center hosted three horse shows. Riders ranged in age from 7 to 73, and they rode horses of various breeds and colors. Placings in the Fireweed Classic and Cowboy Up counted towards year-end awards. The show season closed with a “game day” in which horses and riders competed in timed events.
The 2017 Awards Dinner was held on Nov. 18. Awards were presented in the following categories: Equitation, including On the rider in English and Western in Stock Seat Equitation, Western Bareback Equitation, Hunt Seat Equitation and English Bareback Equitation.
The Western Horse category is based on suitability/performance of horse in Trail, Western Riding Pattern, Western Pleasure and Ideal Horse.
English Horse is based on suitability/performance of horse in Dressage, English Pleasure, Bridle Path Hack and English Pleasure Judges Command.
Versatile Horse is based on suitability/performance of horse in Western and English in Halter, Trail, Western Pleasure, Dressage, English Pleasure and Bridle Path Hack.
The winners of the 2017 Champion and Reserve Champion Awards for the 12 and under age group are: Bella Smith, Champion Equitation, riding Zans Sliding Charm and Alexander Smith, Reserve Champion Equitation, riding Spot of Independence. The Western Horse Champion is Spot of Independence (ridden by Alexander Smith.)
