JCF hires new program officer

The Juneau Community Foundation hired Jamie Waste as its new program officer. He will join the Foundation in mid-October.

At the Juneau Community Foundation, Waste will build awareness of the organization’s role as a place where individuals, nonprofit agencies, and donors can create change, specifically working with the community on building funds to support arts, culture, parks, trails, education, health, social services and youth.

Waste comes to JCF after serving 12 years as the executive director of Alaska Public Broadcasting Inc. where he garnered national recognition for his work leading public broadcasting in Alaska and improving the statewide system’s support of local communities. Before joining Alaska Public Broadcasting Inc. he worked in public media for 25 years, primarily based in Juneau. Many will recognize him as a local voice on KTOO from over the years.

In addition to leadership positions in public media, Waste has volunteered in the community – serving as Chair of the Juneau Soccer Club Board of Directors, coaching both club and Parks and Recreation soccer teams, helping as a trail crewmember with Trail Mix, hosting A Juneau Afternoon radio program and many years ago he fished in the northern southeast gillnet and halibut fisheries.
