JCF’s Douglas-Doran Fund awards grants to Juneau organizations

The Juneau Community Foundation and the Douglas-Doran Foundation Fund advisor will give 17 grants to support several southeast organizations, primarily focused on providing programs and services for youth. Twelve went to Juneau organizations.

Grants were awarded to: Canvas at REACH for $1,700 for digital documentation equipment; Friends of Zach Gordon Youth Center for $2,000 to support a Jesuit Volunteer; Gold Creek Child Development for $500 for art supplies; Juneau Alaska Music Matters for $2475 to support after school Music Technology class; Juneau Jumpers for $500 for workshops to recruit new jumpers; Juneau Skating Club for $1,200 for skate rental costs; Juneau Youth Action Committee for $1,000 matching fund to support non-profit group programs directly affecting youth; Lynn Canal Running Club for $3,150 for scholarships and stipends for mentors; Parents for a Safe Graduation for $1,000 to support the safe graduation party; Perseverance theatre for $1,000 for scholarships for Spring Break Camp; SAIL, Inc – ORCA for $2,000 for scholarships for training; and Southeast Regional Resource Center for $1,440 for GED program support.

The Douglas-Dornan Foundation Fund has been making annual competitive grants to support Juneau and other southeast communities for 22 years. During that time this Fund has supported over 100 different organizations, programs and individuals and distributed almost $398,000 in awards and grants.

The Foundation received 25 applications and focused their grant recommendations on those that supported many people. The fund advisors were very pleased and impressed with the quality and diversity of the applications received. The grants requested far exceeded the financial resources available.

The Douglas-Dornan Fund was established in 1994 in memory of Brian Douglas and Wythe Dornan who were active members of the Juneau community. Each year the Juneau Community Foundation’s Douglas-Dornan Fund advertises for competitive awards and accepts applications after April 1. Visit the Foundation website, juneaucf.org, for more information about this fund and the application process.
