JDHS Theatre opens ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’

Juneau-Douglas High School’s Theatre Department on Jan. 29 opens its production of the rambunctious musical “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” adapted from a 1954 movie of the same name, tells the story of Millie, a young bride living in the 1850’s Oregon wilderness, and her plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage. Packed with rambunctious dance numbers and vaudeville style action sequences, ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ is all boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical.

The play shows at the JDHS auditorium for the next two weekends. It begins Friday, Jan 29 at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for senior citizens, and $10 for students.
