Suzanne di Francia will be the featured artist for the July Friday event and the month of July. Suzanne’s current focus is her interLace technique of blending lovely hand-dyed silk, lace and yarns into a fiber art collage for her one-of-a-kind wearables. Suzanne recently relocated to Juneau from Homer and is looking forward to showing her work and meeting everyone at our First Friday event. Great treats will be provided!

Sealaska Heritage Institute and the Sealaska Heritage Store will offer free admission to the 2016 Juried Art Show in the Nathan Jackson Gallery of the Walter Soboleff Building, and will host Tlingit artist Renee Culp (Klagunk) in the lobby. Culp, of Sugar Bear Alaskan Treasures, creates Southeast Alaska wearable art using traditional and contemporary materials. With her business partner, Haida artist Kathleen Rado (Dune), Culp creates jewelry made from materials including jade, abalone, copper, silver, shell, crystals, bone, pearls, turquoise, and historic trade beads. During the First Friday reception, SHI will also offer free admission to the clan house, Shuká Hít.

Come see “Lost & Found,” an exhibition of characters inspired by found photographs and the artist’s imagination. Found photographs are moments lost in time; they’re incomplete and they have a history, a story. Marisa McConkie’s illustrations try to capture that essence of a story, a person, immortalized on paper.
