Focusing on youth programs and services, the Juneau Community Foundation is granting nearly $30,000 to 12 Southeast Alaska organizations.
The money is from the foundation’s Douglas-Dornan Foundation Fund, which has been giving out grants for the past 23 years. The fund has supported more than 100 different organizations, programs and individuals with a total of more than $426,000.
The largest portion of this year’s $28,760 in grant money is for the Outdoor Recreation and Community Access (ORCA) program, which is the sports and recreation portion of Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL) Inc. That specific grant is $5,000 for scholarships and the re-opening of the Eagle Valley Center Ropes Course.
Other large grants included $3,750 to the Lynn Canal Running Club for scholarships and stipends, $3,410 for Juneau Alaska Music Matters’ after-school program and $3,000 to support the Association for the Education of Young Children’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program.
The Douglas-Dornan Foundation accepts applications for the bid awards after April 1 every year, and reviewed 17 applications this year before selecting the 12 organizations.
