Juneau Jazz and Classics schedule announced

Juneau Jazz & Classics highlights

From its opening night to the final week, Jazz & Classics’ 30th season will get you to lift your heels and move to the soulful sounds of Carolyn Wonderland and the energetic Rad Trads.

“In our 30 years, we’ve welcomed tremendous dance bands to Juneau but acts like these are sure to get you on your feet!” said artistic director Linda Rosenthal. “Carolyn Wonderland’s voice can be as beautiful as an angel and as powerful as a Class 5 hurricane, and the driving rhythm of the Rad Trads will also get your feet out on the floor. If you like to dance, they are not to be missed.”

Jazz & Classics’ 30th season kicks off with an opening night dance party with the reigning queen of Austin blues, Carolyn Wonderland, Friday, May 6, 7:30 p.m. at ANB’s Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall. With the soulful vocals of Janis Joplin and the guitar slinging of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carolyn Wonderland reaches into the depths of the Texas blues with the wit of a poet. “Carolyn Wonderland’s live shows are outright phenomenal,” says Rockzillaworld. “Top notch, five-stars, off the meter.”

Blues Cruises with the Carolyn Wonderland Band.

Also catch the Carolyn Wonderland Band on either of two Blues Cruises on an Allen Marine Catamaran on Saturday, May 7. Both cruises will have music, dancing and a no host bar. The 5 p,m. cruise also features pre-dinner hors d’oeuvres, while the 9 p.m. cruise serves up desserts. Blues Cruises sell out fast so get your tickets early. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to departure. Shuttles will be available from the Auke Bay School parking lot.

Based in New York, The Rad Trads have gained a reputation as one of the most entertaining live acts on today’s scene. They bring their love of a diverse style of soulful American music, with influences ranging from early jazz to New Orleans brass band, R&B, the Chicago and Delta blues, and rock & roll. Featuring three powerful horns, a driving rhythm section, and three captivating lead vocalists, The Rad Trads consistently win over audiences with their relentless energy, charisma, and enthusiasm, as they will you at the JACC Friday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m.
