For those in Juneau, a library card is about to feel like a movie ticket.
Kanopy, an on-demand video streaming service, is now available for free for library card holders at the Juneau Public Library. This service allows access to more than 30,000 films, including documentaries, feature films, TV programs and more. Users are allowed to watch eight films per month, and once they check out a movie, they have three days to watch it.
Library card holders can access the service from any device, including iOS, Android and Roku, and the service is also compatible for those with hearing and visual impairments. The streaming service, which was founded in 2008, strives to provide access to films of social and cultural value, with an array of foreign language films and productions about race, LGBT issues and more.
Any permanent Alaska resident who presents a driver’s license or other acceptable form of identification with a permanent mailing address is eligible to obtain a library card. The streaming service is available for access at juneaupl.kanopystreaming.com.
