Juneau Ranger District seeks applications for natural resource projects

The Forest Service invites the public to submit funding applications for natural resource projects in the Juneau area. Proposals are due Dec. 1, 2016 and may be used for projects on federal and non-federal lands that benefit National Forest System lands.

These funds are made available through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination act and can be applied to projects that “improve maintenance of existing infrastructure, implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems and restore or improve land health and water quality,” according to a Wednesday press release.

The Juneau Resource Advisory Committee, made up of local citizens, will recommend how these funds will be spent. The committee expects nearly $110,000 to fund projects this year. Approximately half the funding will be granted to road, trail and watershed projects.

Applications may be found at the Juneau Ranger District office at 8510 Mendenhall Loop Rd., or online at http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd522434.pdf. Applications can be submitted via mail, email or hand delivered to the District office. Proposals can also be submitted electronically at http://cloudapps-usda-gov.force.com/FSSRS/CreateNewprojectpage.

Those interested in submitting projects are encouraged to discuss their proposals with the Juneau Resource Advisory Committee coordinator Karen Maher. For More information, contact Maher at 789-6267 or via email at kmaher@fs.fed.us.
