I saw Christian Malik on the docks and thought, “This is how to dress like a modern day James Dean.”
Simple, practical clothes that look youthful: Straight leg, classic cut, dark blue jeans — no rips or tears allowed. A simple T-shirt and work boots; if they have a heel, even better. Swept back hair and aviator sunglasses. We all know James Dean would have worn a black, leather jacket. But this was a cool sunny day in Juneau and Christian was visiting from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, so a modern puff jacket with upturned collar and fur hat, in hand, complete his look.
Finally, sport the attitude. While your clothes make you appear interesting, Christian’s flirtatious smile and confidence are what drew me in.
Juneau Style is a weekly fashion segment, capturing how Juneauites dress, whether on the streets downtown, on the fishing docks or on the trails. We believe the Juneau look — XtraTuffs, Carhartts, rain gear, all of it! — is something to be celebrated.
