The Shirly Jackson Community Library in Kake has received a $1,765 grant from the Crossett Fund to help establish an early literacy program at the library for children under 3 years of age.
The program will consist of a weekly lap-sit story hour and theme-based early literacy kits that parents or caregivers may check out from the library. Each literacy kit will include books, a puppet, and suggested age-appropriate learning activities.
The purpose of the Crossett Fund is to improve the health of children living in Southeast Alaska. For more information, visit http://www.crossettfund.org/default.asp
