League of Women Voters give thanks for event success

On Oct. 2, the League of Women Voters of Juneau held its first-ever wine tasting and silent auction fundraiser. We would like to thank the many individuals and businesses who made this event truly successful: The Hangar Ballroom for providing the venue, delicious food and staff (especially Brie Ackley); Tom Locher for the perfect background music for the event; Specialty Imports of Alaska and Southern Wine and Spirits of Alaska/Odom Corp., for providing the amazing wine; and local businesses who donated silent auction items – Alaska Travel Adventures, Alaskan Brewing Co., Annie Kaill’s, Art Matters, Baranof Capital Café, Cycle Alaska, Grandma’s Featherbed, Gross Alaska Cinema, The Hangar, Mount Roberts Tramway, Paradise Cafe, Rainforest Yoga and Wingnut Auto Salon.

A special thanks goes to our event number one organizer Kim Andree, who made the evening special with magical details, including the decorations, flower arrangements, preparing auction bid numbers and sheets, a women’s history slideshow, and offering a special photo booth. Members who donated either auction items and/or time include Judy Andree, Carolyn Brown, Fran Compton, Chris Niemi, Deb Munsell, Mary Borthwick, Robert Minch, Margaret Pugh, Marianne Mills, Marjorie Menzi, LaRae Jones, Alyson Currey, an anonymous League member and yours truly.

Thanks to the Board members who sold tickets and those of you who bought them! Proceeds from the event will go to support the work of the Juneau League, which register citizens to vote, provides valuable information about issues which affect our lives and encourages citizens to actively participate in government.
