Lions around the world are celebrating 100 years of service to their communities. Lions have been challenged to bring in new members, engage the youth in their communities, help the needy with eyesight, relieve the hungry and protect the environment.
Juneau has two Lions Clubs: the Juneau Lions Club and the Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Club. The Juneau Lions Club is known for their annual Gold Medal Basketball Tournament. The Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions are known for their free vision screening efforts to the children of Juneau and Southeast as well as their annual barbecue (that benefits the Alaska Diabetes Association) and Light Flights (helicopter ride over the Mendenhall Valley to view Christmas lights).
