On March 3, the Juneau-Douglas City Museum will hold a First Friday opening from 4:30-7 p.m. highlighting the museum’s 12×12 Community Art Exhibit. For 13 years, the museum has hosted this popular community exhibit, which encourages artists of all ages to examine a new theme in a square (or cube) format. This year’s theme is “ink.” The exhibit will be on view through April 22.

In addition, seven photographic prints by local photographer John Hyde, purchased through the generous support of the Rasmuson Foundation Art Acquisition Fund in 2015, will go on display in the Video Room Gallery starting March 3 through the end of 2017.

On March 4, the museum will hold a Coffee and Collections from 10:30 a.m.-noon to screen the documentary “The Empty Chair,” accompanied by a presentation and question-and-answer session with filmmaker Greg Chaney and Empty Chair Committee member Marie Darlin. Coffee and Collections is a free event. Coffee will be provided courtesy of Heritage Coffee Company.

Also in March, the museum will highlight five local female artists as part of the second annual National Museum of Women in the the Arts #5WomenArtists campaign for Women’s History Month. Each Friday, the museum will feature a different artist on its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/JuneauMuseumFriends/.
