Juneau Lyric Opera continues its 40th anniversary season celebration with the 27th annual Mid-Winter Vocal Festival Dec. 27-Jan. 3. Conductor Dr. Byron McGilvray, and pianist/vocal coach Janis Capelle, will be back to lead this year’s vocal workshop with classes in Group Voice, Ensemble Singing, and the Festival Chorus.
Here are a few details on each class.
Group Voice: If you are a shower singer, or just need to brush up on the basic techniques of good singing, this is the class for you.
Ensemble Singing: This class will explore the world of small vocal ensembles and how it is different than singing in a large chorus. Participants can either come with a small group already formed (2-6 persons) or will be assigned a group at the first rehearsal. All styles of music welcome.
Festival Chorus: Come sing with your friends and neighbors. All skill levels welcome. Selections include music by Faure, Mendelssohn and Mel Brooks.
The workshop concludes with a performance Jan. 3 at 3 pm at Thunder Mountain High School.
