The Juneau Family Health and Birth Center is sponsoring a pay-as-you-can showing of “Midwife — A Look into the World of Homebirth” at 7 p.m. Monday at the Gold Town Nickelodeon.
This 2013 film follows Minnesota home birth midwife, Sarah Biermeier (of Geneabirth), during her first year as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). The documentary quietly shows the life of a home birth midwife, from prenatals, to births, to postpartums, while also examining what the birth environment looks like in states where home birth midwifery is not legal, and families are faced with fewer birth options.
Madi Nolan Grimes, clinical director of the Birth Center, said “’Midwives’ honors the compassion and beauty that begin with pregnancy. The film displays the birth process honestly, and encourages viewers to explore their options for the best birth possible.”
This event is open to everyone. Midwives from the Birth Center will be available to talk about birth options and to answer questions following the film. For more information about the film or to schedule a tour of the birth center, contact the Juneau Family Health and Birth Center at 586-1203 or info@juneaubirthcenter.org.
