“Of Men and War” — Wednesday Nov. 11, and Saturday. Nov. 14. Synopsis: Anger consumes a squad of combat vets years after they return from the front. The dozen warriors in Of Men and War come home to the United States, but their minds are stuck out on the battlefield. Like figures from a Greek tragedy, all have traumatic memories that haunt them. Of Men and War explores their grueling paths to recovery, as they attempt to make peace with themselves, their past, and their families.

“Hunting in Wartime” — Wednesday, Nov. 11. Synopsis: Hunting in Wartime profiles the stories of Tlingit Native Americans from the village of Hoonah, who served in the Vietnam War.

Pawn Sacrifice” — Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Nov. 13-15. Synopsis: Set during the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer finds himself caught between two superpowers and his own struggles as he challenges the Soviet Empire.

SNOvember Film Series, Thursday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 14, Gold Town Nickelodeon. Synopsis: The SNOvember Film Series celebrates the coming winter season by showcasing the year’s best ski and snowboard films. All of the proceeds go towards building a cabin and trail at Cropley Lake through the Eaglecrest Foundation. Tickets $10 at the door. Details: goldtownnick.com

Saturday Mornings at the Movies, 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, Gold Town Nickelodeon Theater. Runs every Second Saturday of the Month, October-February. Kids movies and cartoons shown on the big screen in a family-friendly atmosphere. All ages welcome. A fundraiser for the Juneau Cooperative Preschool, sponsored by the Gold Town. Tickets $5 per person, or $20 per household, at the door. Children age 2 and under free with paying adult. Details: http://www.juneaupreschool.org

Opera and Musical Film Fest: “The Flying Dutchman,” Sunday and Tuesday, Nov. 15 and 17, Gold Town Nickelodeon. Hosted by Juneau Lyric Opera. Synopsis: This production of Richard Wagner’s opera stars Bryn Terfel as the Dutchman and is the first time he has been recorded performing this role. $8-10. Details: Goldtownnick.com

Climate Action Film Series: “The Yes Men Are Revolting,” 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16, Gold Town Theatre. Synopsis: This film follows two comic activists who stage media hoaxes and political pranking to expose corporate crimes around global warming. Sponsored by Alaska Climate Action Network.
