Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka accepting student applications

Mt. Edgecumbe High School, the state-operated boarding school in Sitka, is accepting applications for enrollment for next school year.

The school typically enrolls approximately 400 students from over 100 villages and other communities. About 84 percent of Mt. Edgecumbe’s students are Alaska Native.

Mt. Edgecumbe continues to operate as a four-year high school serving a variety of students. Students have an opportunity to take courses in the arts, sciences, social studies, English, world languages, mathematics, computer science, physical education, ETT/EMT, welding and construction. There is the option to graduate with an engineering or health science specialty.

Mt. Edgecumbe offers extracurricular activities in sports, drama, debate, forensics, leadership and other recreational activities.

Ninety-three percent of 2014 graduates were accepted into post-secondary university or technical training programs, with seven percent enlisting in the military or joining the workforce.
