New Lions Club officers installed

The Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Club has named its incoming officers for the 2016-2017 Lion year.

Donna Hurley was elected club president. Hurley has been an active member of the Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Club for the past 16 years. Nancy Norton was elected to serve as club secretary. The club’s vice-president will be Soapy Lingle and Bob Hurley as Treasurer.

Since the club’s chartering in 1983, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as the vision screening in schools, Light Flights, their annual Barbecue, eyeglass collection and veterans projects, to name just a few. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to the American Diabetes Association, Campabilities (for blind children), Camp K (for children with diabetes), Children’s Tumor Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle.

The Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Club has 22 members and meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Church. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
