The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council brings the ninth annual Food Festival, featuring fresh local produce, homemade jams and jellies and arts and crafts on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center.
This celebration of “Alaska Grown” is intended to foster greater food self-sufficiency by bringing together consumers, growers and producers of local foods to encourage local sustainability through backyard gardening and small business initiatives. The market also offers a place for non-profits to raise money through sales of produce or baked goods containing locally grown or harvested ingredients.
There will be free workshops on a variety of topics (still in the planning stages) that in the past have ranged from growing garlic to raising chickens.
The event is free and open to the public.
