On Tuesday night, an all-ages event will transport attendees from Juneau to Saturn.
The Marie Drake Planetarium is hosting a presentation about the Cassini mission to Saturn, which has revealed quite a bit about the ringed planet. The free presentation is entitled “The Best Spacecraft Yet!” and begins at 7 p.m.
Sean Strauss, a longtime substitute teacher and tutor in Juneau, will lead the presentation about the spacecraft, its journey to Saturn, its discoveries and more. The presentation will include photos from the mission, which has been more than 20 years in the making.
The mission is wrapping up soon, after discovering large seas of liquid methane on Saturn’s largest moon and a global ocean on another moon. According to NASA’s website, Cassini’s discoveries have “revolutionized the way scientists look at ocean worlds.” The spacecraft has explored the planet and its moons since 2004 and will make its final plunge into Saturn’s atmosphere in September to end its mission.
