Preview the new State Library Archives and Museum

On June 4 you have a date with history, an exclusive preview tour for 200 people inside the newly completed Father Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives and Museum.

You’ll get the inside story about the collections vault, conservation labs and exhibit fabrication shop. Step onto the massive terrazzo floor map of Alaska inside the atrium. Inspect the reincarnated eagle tree, 2 ½-times larger museum, children’s glass-enclosed play area with a refabricated Discovery ship. See Science on a Sphere with images of worldwide weather in real time, glacial advances, or earthquakes projected onto a six-foot diameter globe. Talk with Evon Zerbetz about her vibrant 63-foot glass wall. Check out the dramatic wood ceiling in the Richard Foster Reading Room and the sky bridge.

This event takes place on Saturday, June 4 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tours times are 6 and 7:15 p.m. The Rob Cohen band will play in the atrium, hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be a no host bar. Tickets are sold at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center, Hearthside Books or jahc.org at $75 for Friends’ members, $100 for non-members. Join the Friends at foslam.org.

The official dedication and ribbon cutting of SLAM will be from 1-4 p.m. on June 6 where the public can visit the new building.
