The American Red Cross of Alaska will host its Southeast Disaster Institute from Sept. 15-17, at Centennial Hall in Juneau, during the “Ready or Not, Don’t Get Caught!” Juneau Safety and Preparedness Expo.
This is a multi-day training conference designed to increase volunteer capacity for Red Cross disaster responders in Southeast Alaska. Attendees will come from a wide variety of backgrounds and locations, and will include current and potential Red Cross volunteers, employees and partners.
The course audience and skill level will focus on volunteers new to Red Cross Disaster Services and cover introductory topics including disaster action team fundamentals, casework and recovery, introduction to disaster services, bulk distribution, disaster assessments, FEMA shelter field guide and shelter operation simulation.
Institute participants who complete the courses will be encouraged to join the Red Cross as shelter workers, caseworkers and general disaster volunteers.
