Smoking Bill comes to Juneau for dance party

JUNEAU — Ska/funk/rock band Smoking Bill of Seattle Washington will perform at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council’s Block Party on Aug. 5. A rock band with a horn section, this upbeat if not quirky band has a lively sound that is easy to dance to. With an emphasis on “good ol’ fashioned party sensibility,” Smoking Bill is a genre-bending group with raunchy songs and the ability to get anyone off their seats and having fun. With long-time gigs at The Dubliner in Seattle for St.Patty’s celebrations, the featured band at the Seattle Gay Pride Capitol Hill Block Party, and The Historic Showbox, Smoking Bill is a Pacific Northwest favorite. The show features Ed Littlefield on drums, Ben Dietzen on bass, Greg Hagstrom on guitar, Mike Ayre on trombone, Adam Bruno on trumpet, and Jesse Calixto on vocals.

Smoking Bill Unplugged will perform a free, family-friendly show for the public at the Block Party on August 5, from 5:30-6:15 p.m., with DJ Annie B of KXLL from 6:15-7 p.m. at the APK plaza. At 7:30 p.m., the Smoking Bill Dance Party at the JACC will get kicked off with opener and local favorite DJ Marty Weiner of KXLL, and Smoking Bill on at 8 p.m., and a no-host bar. Ages 21 or older, unless accompanied by legal parent or guardian (for dance party, parental guidance recommended).

Tickets are $15, available at the JACC, Hearthside Books, or online at www.jahc.org.
