Juneau residents looking to experience a little Scandinavian culture don’t need to go to Petersburg to do it — they can join the Sons of Norway and Friends of Scandinavia lodge right here in town.
The lodge is holding its annual membership dinner this coming Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Juneau Yacht Club at Aurora Harbor. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 6 p.m., featuring chicken marsala and shrimp fettuccine. Dinner is $30 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under and free for children age 5 and under.
Attendees must RSVP no later than this Tuesday to reserve a spot, by emailing fuglvogl@hotmail.com. Club members are encouraged to bring guests, and if a guest decides to join the club during the event his or her dinner is free. The event will feature a new members’ initiation ceremony.
It will also include live Scandinavian music from Dale Wygant and the screening of “Crown Princess Marta, the American Story,” a film depicting the true story of a Swedish princess who married the crown prince of Norway.
Sons of Norway was founded in 1895 and has nearly 400 lodges across the United States, Canada and Norway. It aims to familiarize members with the culture and traditions of Norway. The Juneau lodge was founded in 1934.
