On February 12, 17 students participated in the district spelling bee. These students had already won their class bees and school bees. Students from 3rd-8th grades are allowed to compete and there were representatives from each elementary and middle school. Contestants were: Addy Lanz, Alec James, Benjamin Roesel, Daniel John, Elizabeth Djajalie, Emma Fellman, Ferguson Wheeler, Ibrahima Diouf, Isabella McAdoo, Jack Lovejoy, Jeremiah Helms, Laina Mesdag, Lola Brown, Paige Adams, Paolo Bohulano, Sofia Hendricks, and Ysabel Wilson. After six rounds, Ibrahima Diouf, a third grader from Glacier Valley, came in second place. Winner of the district bee was Paolo Bohulano, an 8th grader from Juneau Montessori School, spelled the word “conundrum” for the win. Both students are invited to attend the state bee, held in Anchorage at the end of March.
