Students selected for BRHF’s Edelman Health Sciences Scholarships

Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation awarded six scholarships to Juneau students through the Grace and Phil Edelman Health Sciences Scholarship, which was created to support the education and development of Southeast Alaskan students pursuing degrees in any field of health science, and to encourage their return to this region of Alaska.

Melina Mack and Lauren Hopson of Juneau were both selected to receive $5,000 in academic scholarships. Mack is a nursing student attending University of Alaska Anchorage. Hopson is completing a Master of Science degree in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at Columbia University.

Kristoff Dietz, Olivia Ramseth and Kimiko Urata of Juneau, were selected to receive a $2,500 academic scholarship. Dietz is attending University of Alaska Anchorage completing courses in the LPN-RN bridge program. Ramseth is a nursing school student at University of Alaska Anchorage and Urata is a medical school student at University of Washington School of Medicine.

Sarah Sjostedt of Juneau was selected to receive a $1,250 academic scholarship. Sjostedt is a student at University of Alaska Anchorage working toward completing a Masters in Nursing, along the Family Nurse Practitioner track.

Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and leadership among peers in the community, with preference for graduate-level and professional degree candidates intending to return to Southeast upon completion of their degree.

The BRHF scholarship committee received 31 scholarship applications for the 2016-2017 academic year. The committee selected nine students from Southeast Alaska, awarding a total of $28,750 this year, bringing the total awarded amount since scholarship inception to $136,250.
