Ever wonder why gold is here, or how our geology has affected urban development such as landslides, our unruly Gold Creek and uplifting landscapes and sea level change?
Join Cathy Connor and Mike Blackwell at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum for a free non-technical talk about the general description of the character and distribution of rocks and ice including the Mendenhall Glacier. Connor and Blackwell will also discuss profitability of urban mines, tailings and waste rock management and filling and dredging in the Gastineau Channel.
Retired University of Alaska Southeast Professor of Geology, Connor is the author of “Roadside Geology of Alaska,” and retired geological engineer Mike Blackwell were project volunteer consultants on the Museum’s new exhibit, Rocks and Minerals.
The talk will be on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
