On Jan, 30 Juneau Stop Heroin, Start Talking and the National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependency, held a candlelight vigil at Marine Park. Speakers Carlton Smith and Raegen Eidsness spoke to our hearts about hope in tragedies. I wanted to thank the speakers and the people who came out. Addiction is a preventable and curable disease. For those who have lost loved ones to addiction and overdoses deaths please know you are not alone. We are starting to see small steps that make big differences. Sen. Johnny Ellis along with Sen. Egan and Rep. Munoz are working hard to get Senate Bill 23 passed. This bill allows Naloxone, a medication that stops an overdose, to be available in our community. Forty-six other states already have a similar bill. This bill won’t cure our heroin or opioid epidemic, but it can save people from dying of an overdose. We are so blessed to live in this wonderful community where we are working together to make a change.
