In early June my daughter, Amy Henderson, was diagnosed with cancer. The Juneau community responded immediately with an outpouring of support, prayer, and fund raising. We want to express our sincere appreciation and thankfulness for living in a community so full of compassion and action.

Thank you to the Juneau women soccer league. The image of your moment of silence for Amy just days after her diagnosis was a powerful image that encouraged us all.

Thank you to the Lemon Creek Correctional Facility staff for your support and generosity. Amy had just started a job as an RN at LCCF and so she had no sick leave. The LCCF staff not only raised money, but also donated leave so that Amy could stay in pay status and keep her health insurance.

Thank you to all state employees who generously donated leave to Amy. We don’t know who you all are, but we do know of one person who donated over four weeks of leave! Amazing!

Thank you to Andrea Nguyen for creating a YouCaring site that made it easy for people to contribute from across the nation. Juneau residents have been extremely generous and offered many words of encouragement through that site.

Thank you to Juneau CrossFit. You provided an incredible foundation of emotional support for Amy while she was hospitalized in Seattle. The #AmyStrong fundraiser was so impressive and encouraging. Thank you Corrine Bullick, Marylee Quinto, Myra Pugh, Danielle Miller, and Chad Requa for making that happen. Thank you to all the local businesses who donated goods and services.

Thank you to all many individuals who have given money or helped purchase airline tickets. You know who you are. You are incredible!

Thank you Juneau Church of Christ for your special contribution on Amy’s behalf.

Finally, we want to thank Cyla Garcia, Tessie Llanto, the Carrillo family, and the Filipino Community for the tremendous fund raiser on August 26. It was a massive effort with numerous donations, great entertainment, hard work, and delicious food! The total amount donated was amazing!

We are proud and thankful to live in such a supportive community. Amy’s on a marathon, but is making progress and hopes to return to work soon. You all have made a huge difference in her ability to fight through this. May God’s grace and mercy shine on you all.
