Thank you to Alaska National Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard for food drive

On behalf of the Southeast Alaska Food Bank Board of Directors and volunteers, I would like to thank members of the Alaska Army National Guard and members of the United States Coast Guard Enlisted Association for coordinating an enormously successful food drive on Saturday, June 10.

297th MP Company Alaska National Guard — These members of the 297th MP Company volunteered at the IGA Super Bear store, where they collected $331 and over 1,245 pounds of food for the Food Bank:

Sergeant First Class (SFC) Brent Bartlett, Staff Sergeant (SSG) Mac McGonigal, Specialist (SPC) Jordan Marlowe, Specialist (SPC) Brandon Lumbab, 297th NSC (network Support Co). Staff Sergeant (SSG) Tom Hall, 297th National Guard Recruiters Sergeant First Class (SFC) Maata Finau, Sergeant First Class (SFC) Natasha May, United States Coast Guard, Sector Juneau, Enlisted Association, Glacier Branch.

The following Coastguardsmen and women volunteered at the downtown IGA store and collected over 1,143 pound of food for the Food Bank:

Marine Science Technician (MST) Second Class Justin Harrison, Store Keeper Second Class (SK2) Tess Lee, Marine Science Technician Second Class (MST2) Britany McKibben, Marine Science Technician Third Class (MST3) Aziz Ali, Marine Science Technician Third Class (MST3) Mitch McLaughlin.

The Alaska National Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard have a longstanding history of generously donating their time, energy and talents to the communities they serve. These fine professional men and women selflessly contributed their own time when they could have spent it with their families on Saturday, June 10. Their efforts in collecting almost 2,400 pounds of food will allow the Southeast Alaska Food Bank to continue to provide healthy and nutritious food to those families and individuals in our community who may need assistance.

The Southeast Alaska Food Bank could not achieve its goal of providing healthy, nutritious food for those in need without the generosity and support of these fine organizations and many others here in Juneau. Last year, through the efforts of our one employee and our dedicated volunteers, the Southeast Alaska Food Bank provided over 313,000 pounds of food to local food pantries, nonprofit organizations and members of the community. We would like to thank everyone for the continued support.

Dennis Watson

Board President, Southeast Alaska Food Bank
