Thanks for the donated glasses

The Juneau Lions Club and the Juneau Mendenhall Flying Lions Club, which make up the Capital City Joint Sight Committee, would like to thank the community and those locations that collect eyeglasses on a permanent basis for their participation in the Recycle for Sight Drive that took place on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Nugget Mall.

Permanent locations to drop off unwanted eyeglasses (single lens, bifocals, trifocals, sunglasses, reading glasses and cases) include: Specs in the City, Glacier Optical, SEARHC, Alaska Vision Center, Lifetime Eyecare and Dr. Messerschmidt’s Office. Glasses are then sent to the Aurora Borealis Recycling Center in North Pole where they are cleaned, categorized and prepared for distribution around the world for people who can’t afford to purchase them, including Alaska. They re-distribute approximately 30,000 pairs each year.

We welcome new members. For more information on how you can get involved, contact Committee Chair Mike Norton at 907-957-1697 or mendenhallflyinglions@gmail.com.
