Lifelong Gustavus resident Zach Brown will discuss his 2,300-mile solo trek and paddle expedition from California to Alaska at today’s Fireside Lecture. The lecture will be held at 6:30 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
Brown celebrated the completion of his PhD by hiking and kayaking from Stanford University to his home in Gustavus. Upon his return, he founded the Inian Islands Institute, a field school near Glacier Bay dedicated to education, research and environmental leadership — an idea conceived while working on his PhD in climate science.
Elevators are still out at the Visitor Center due to construction, please use the ramp or stairs. Contact Laurie Craig at 789-0097 or lcraig@fs.fed.us for more information.
