Two locals selected for BRHF’s Behavioral Wellness Scholarships

On Oct. 8, at Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation’s Black and White Gala and Fundraiser, two scholarships totaling $5,00 were awarded to Juneau behavioral health practitioners.

The scholarship, titled the “Behavioral Wellness Scholarship,” was created this year to expand resources to treat behavioral health illnesses and to enhance access to behavioral health care throughout Juneau.

The BRHF scholarship committee selected Kathryn Cranor and TK Kahn to receive the scholarship, awarding a total of $5,000 this first year the scholarship is being offered. Cranor is a licensed therapist in Juneau and will use the scholarship to attend training that will focus on understanding the effects of trauma during early development and its subsequent manifestation in adult clients.

Kahn specializes in clinical social work in Juneau. He will use the scholarship to participate in a web-based Additions Certificate program designed to deliver behavioral healthcare services to addicts that may present additional complex mental health and physical health needs. He will also attend skills training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and advanced training in Motivational Interviewing.

Through the Behavioral Wellness Scholarship BRHF’s goal is to increase the number of behavioral health practitioners with advanced certifications and training in Juneau, and to create a program for Juneau behavioral health practitioners interested in obtaining advanced certifications and/or training.
