The University of Alaska Southeast has earned a spot on Military Friendly Schools’ list of the most military-friendly universities in the country.
UAS recently instituted a new program, the College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative (CSPI), that helps interested students prepare for careers with the United States Coast Guard. UAS Chancellor Richard Caulfield said the school also works to honor students and staff who are veterans.
“UAS has a particularly strong relationship with the U.S. Coast Guard and Army National Guard,” Caulfield said in a release. “The Military Friendly recognition underscores our commitment to providing quality education and training and a supportive environment to members of the military community.”
The CSPI serves as a scholarship program that pays for up to two years of tuition and fees and, with the completion of Officer Candidate School after graduation, guarantees a job, career services coordinator/VA school certifying official Deborah Rydman said in the release.
There were three Alaska schools that earned recognition, with the other two being the University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks.
