United Way of Southeast Alaska elects board members

United Way of Southeast Alaska recently held its annual meeting, at which time the board acknowledged and recognized outgoing board members, elected new board members and elected officers for the coming year.

Current board members Fred Parady and Kendri Cesar were re-elected to the board for three year terms with terms expiring in 2020. Millie Ryan was re-elected to a two-year term, and Karmen Bowman was elected to a three-year term.

Cesar is an associate attorney with Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Miller and Munson, LLP. Cesar has been a part of the education and health committees with their efforts to promote early childhood education in the community and identify ways to bring focus to the myriad of health challenges facing communities across Southeast.

Parady is a deputy commissioner with the Alaska Department of Commerce and Community and Economic Development. Ryan is the executive director of REACH. REACH is a long time United Way partner agency. Ryan has served on the United Way Board since January of 2015.

Bowman has owned her own accounting firm, Accurate Accounting Services, in Juneau for many years. Bowman has served as a member of the finance committee since March of 2014.

Mark Mesdag was elected Chair of the Board of Directors for United Way of Southeast Alaska for 2017. Other elected officers were: Warren Russell as chair elect, Ann Gifford as secretary, Karmen Bowman as treasurer, and past chair is Karen Crane, who will return to the board for a one year term.
