JUNEAU — The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council invites artists to create a piece of wearable art for the 2017 Wearable Arts Extravaganza, Renaissance. Deadline for applications/registration is Dec. 15 at 5 p.m.
This year’s show takes place on Feb. 11, 12 at Centennial Hall. Margeaux Ljungberg is the director and Akiko Nishijima-Rotch will be the set designer. The runway set up will be similar to last year with a zigzag running the length of the hall with slight modifications as needed. A panel of judges will jury the show for the artists who choose to participate. Winners of the juried show will be awarded cash prizes. All entries will continue to be judged by popular vote both performance nights, as in previous years.
To enter artists need to apply online via a form at jahc.org, pay a $40 registration fee (payable at the JACC, Hearthside Books, via phone at 586-2787 or online at jahc.org) and email sketches/photos to Meghan@jahc.org. Hard copies are acceptable as well, deliverable to the JACC.An artist orientation and info session with director, set designer and JAHC staff will be held at the JACC on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the gallery.
Proceeds from Saturday’s show helps supports the JACC improvements, and proceeds from Sunday’s show help find the JAHC’s Fine Arts Scholarship program. The event includes a different silent auction for each performance.
