MUSIC & DANCE

FallTober Fest, 7-10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, Rockwell Ballroom. The Alaska Folk Festival and KRNN will host a folk music fundraiser, party, and celebration with six bands over two nights. All-ages. Tickets: www.jahc.org, Hearthside. Ballroom Dance, 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, JACC. The Thunder Mountain Big Band will be playing for an hour from 8-9 p.m., followed by a mix of dj’d ballroom and latin tunes. DJ tunes begin at 7 p.m., lesson (instructor pending) at 7:15 p.m.. Details: Tim Adair 789-4690.

Canvas Dance-A-Thon Fundraiser, 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, The Canvas. Teams of up to four people compete to see who can dance the longest. Each team pledges to raise $100 in donations for the Canvas and the winning team receives a night out on the town from various sponsors. Spectator admission is $10 at the door. Gold Street Music season opener, 7:30 p.m. Saturday Oct. 3, Resurrection Lutheran Church. $5 at the door. Concerts will continue on the first Saturday of each month through March. Featuring: The Taku Gaels, Travis Croteau, Pat Henry, and Tom Locher with Dara Ritalos and Alyssa Abrams.

Film Presentation: “First Language: The Race to Save Cherokee”, 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, UAS Egan Lecture Hall. The third of three films on Endangered Language Continuity, organized by UAS Faculty Alice Taff. WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

 Draw Open Studio, 10 a.m. –12 p.m., Saturdays, The Canvas Community Art Studio and Gallery. Led by visiting artists Tim Ortiz and/or Andreana Donahue. Saturday Comics Workshop, 2-4 p.m., Douglas Public Library. Kean Soo and Tory Woollcott, guest comic artists from Toronto, will do some drawing and talk about story structure. Free.


Critique session, 12-1 p.m., Saturdays, Canvas Community Art Studio and Gallery. Open to local artists working in any medium. Critiques will be moderated by visiting artists Tim Ortiz and Andreana Donahue, and will provide an opportunity to show work and get feedback from fellow Juneau artists. Free. 


Sunday Workshop: Outlining your Story, 1-4 p.m., Canvas. Learn exercises to prepare a cohesive story from start to finish. This workshop will focus on exercises that can be used by people of all ages to develop stories for games, comics or novels and be used again and again. Fee $50.
